Hard Boiled EGG
From a young age, the artist devoted himself to painting, music and sports, but eventually became an investor. A few years ago, when covid disrupted business around the world, Ivan Meštrović started toying with the idea of creating sculptures for fun. His role model was the well-known artist Anish Kapoor. "I needed material that would tell a story," said Meštrović during his visit to Prague in January. But what to make of him? He was struck by the sphere which has a universally understandable but dull shape. However, the egg, the symbol of birth and perfection, was not far from her and much more interesting as art form.
Over the past two years, he has created twenty-six diverse pieces from materials such as eight-thousand-year-old wood or commonly unavailable composites used in aviation. For example, there is an object in production made of iron obtained from one Ukrainian and one Russian tank, which were destroyed in last year's battles for Buča. In total, he wants to bring 99 eggs into the world and choose more and more radical and unexpected materials. Given that one of the first contains radioactive components from Chernobyl and Fukushima, we probably have a lot to look forward to.
